2021 MYL Program Description

2021 Marshwood Youth Lacrosse

Program Information

Experience Required?- There is no experience required to play lacrosse at any age level.  Some of the top professional lacrosse players did not begin playing lacrosse until they were teenagers!

Youth Program Teams- MYL will field youth program teams for boys and girls grouped by gender and then grade pairings i.e. 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th that are in 1st through 8th grade.

High School Teams- MYL will offer a high school program this season if RSU 35 is not able to offer programming through the school district. Currently interested players are urged to join a waitlist through our registration so that we can prepare to offer a program if there is need and interest.

Season- The lacrosse season runs from the mid-April to mid-June.

Practices- MYL teams, pending weather related cancellations, are scheduled for 18 in-season practices this season. Practices will mostly be conducted on a consistent day and time twice per week.

Games- Teams will be scheduled for 8-10 games in-season.  At the current time we are planning to schedule in house i.e. marshwood purple vs. white officiated games throughout the season unless Maine guidelines allow for safe inter-town play.  There are several meetings and ongoing discussions regarding league games but nothing will be worked out in the near future.

Youth Program Cost- Program cost is $125. US Lacrosse registration is $30-35 in addition to this and is paid directly to USL. If our website does not automatically direct you there you can register by clicking here.

Uniforms- This season MYL will provide uniforms to players who do not have properly fitting uniforms already.  This means that there is no additional cost to you but we KINDLY urge you to only order items if they are needed.  This will help us continue to keep our tuition much lower than surrounding communities.

2020 Season Credits- All credits for tuition paid or uniform items ordered and received are affixed to the applicable accounts and can be applied to this seasons tuition. You will not see these credits during the registration process until you are ready to check out and complete registration. Credits vary widely as not everyone received their uniforms and some people were at various points of paying through the payment plan. Credits ranged from $15 to full tuition. If you were refunded from last season you will not have an account credit.

Program Payment Options- MYL has a newer payment merchant through our website provider.  This new option allows families when registering to pay in full or pay over time via an automatic payment option!  You will be required to pay $25 plus USL registration when registering and then payments will be automatically withdrawn in even $25 increments on the 1st of the month April through June.  If registering after installment due dates you will be required to also pay that amount up front from what I see on the website.  For example, if you register after March 1st you would pay $50 plus USL upfront.

Registration- Open now through March 15th.

COVID-19- MYL will follow current state and USL guidelines regarding our programming.  Prior to any in person interactions this document will be updated from last summer and will be disseminated to the membership.

Equipment- Girl players will be required to have a stick, mouth guard, goggles, jock and cleats.  Boy players will be required to have a stick, mouth guard, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves jock and cleats.  Dick’s sporting goods and Play It Again Sports are two local options for lacrosse gear in our area.  As the season approaches I will also have a gear swap but this season my stock is limited.  Goalie equipment is provided to each team for use during the season.

Coaching & Board Member Volunteering- This program needs to thrive on/live by the motto “many hands make light work”.  Currently the only area that I can say we are successfully living by that motto is coaches in our boys program.  MYL is a non-profit organization that only survives through significant fundraising efforts and through volunteers.  We are in definite need of coaching help in our girls program and on our board.  Coaching experience is not required to volunteer, we need more coaching now to begin to pass on the knowledge now as our more experienced coaches age out!  I am personally trying to streamline as many of the areas that we could use assistance in to help people in their ability to step up! Please email if you have the ability to help.

Thank you all for your time.  I hope everyone is as excited to get back out onto the field as I am!
