2020 MYL Program Information

2020 Marshwood Youth Lacrosse

Program Information

Experience Required?- There is no experience required to play lacrosse at any age level.  Some of the top professional lacrosse players did not begin playing lacrosse until they were teenagers!

Youth Program Teams- MYL will field youth program teams for boys and girls grouped by gender and then grade pairings i.e. 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th and 5th & 6th grade. The lacrosse season runs from April to mid-June.

Youth Practices- MYL teams, pending weather related cancellations, are scheduled for 18 in-season practices this seasons.  Outdoor in-season practices, pending changes with logistics, are already loaded onto the MYL website for the 2020 season.  You can visit your players age group to see their respective schedule for the season. Indoor practices will be scheduled later this winter for all teams as well.

Youth Games- Youth teams will be scheduled for 8-10 games in-season.  Teams also have the option of attending one local tournament during the season (coaches option).  More information regarding tournaments will be provided through coaches or team managers as the season gets underway.

Youth Program Cost- Base Program cost is $80. US Lacrosse registration is $35 and is paid directly to USL. Uniforms: Bottoms $20, Jersey $30 and Practice Pinnie $15.  Uniforms are only required to be purchased if needed and can be reused/handed down from season to season. Note: 1st/2nd grade players will be loaned a jersey for the season.

Program Payment Options- New this year!  MYL has a new payment merchant through our website provider.  This new option allows families when registering to pay in full or pay over time via an automatic payment option!  You will be required to pay $20 plus USL registration when registering and then payments will be automatically withdrawn in even $20 increments on the 15 of the month January through March with the final balance being paid April 15th.  If registering after installment due dates you will be required to also pay that amount up front from what I see on the website. For example, if you register after January 15th you would pay $40 plus USL upfront.

Registration- We will be opening registration a bit later this month.  A separate email will be sent once it is officially open for the season

Equipment- Girl players will be required to have a stick, mouth guard, goggles and cleats.  Boy players will be required to have a stick, mouth guard, helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, athletic jock and cleats.  Dick’s sporting goods and Play It Again Sports are two local options for lacrosse gear in our area. As the season approaches I will also have a gear swap but this season my stock is limited.  Goalie equipment is provided to each team for use during the season.

Coaching & Board Member Volunteering- This program needs to thrive on/live by the motto “many hands make light work”.  Currently the only area that I can say we are successfully living by that motto is coaches in our boys program.  MYL is a non-profit organization that only survives through significant fundraising efforts and through volunteers.  We are in definite need of coaching help in our girls program and on our board. Coaching experience is not required to volunteer, we need more coaching now to begin to pass on the knowledge now as our more experienced coaches age out!  I am personally trying to streamline as many of the areas that we could use assistance in to help people in their ability to step up! Please email marshwoodyouthlacrosse@gmail.com if you have the ability to help.

Middle School Teams- MYL has approved a contract with RSU 35 to field one boys and one girls 7th/8th Grade team.  MYL will cover ALL expenses related to said teams and serve as the booster entity in this contract and will therefore set a booster fee for participants as the season approaches.  More information regarding this program will be provided in partnership with RSU 35 later in the winter.

Thank you all for your time.  I hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Craig Estes

MYL President
